Week 9 in the Weatherford-Elk City I-40 Corridor Had a Plethora of Results. Who Held Serve and Who Suffered an Upset Loss? Find Out in This Week’s Monday Morning QB
Clinton 0 @ Cache 7
The Clinton Red Tornadoes rolled down to Cache with a chance to claim the 4A-1 District Title against the Bulldogs. It was a tough, defensive struggle throughout. Neither team was able to muster 200 yards of total offense in the 4 quarters. Ultimately it was a early first quarter TD from Cache’s Josiah Thomas that proved the difference in Cache’s 7-0 upset of Clinton. Defensively the Red Tornadoes did the job. They held Cache to just 130 yards of total offense. Offensively Zaedon Collins and Kyntavion Hill combined to rush for 128 yards on 29 carries, but penalties and a couple turnovers proved too much for Clinton to overcome. The loss didn’t really affect much in 4A-1. Clinton will still be the District Champion with a win at Woodward. Unfortunately for Cache the win didn’t really help them much either. The Bulldogs still have to win in Chickasha on Friday night to claim the 4th and final playoff spot out of 4A-1.
John Marshall 16 @ Weatherford 42
The Weatherford Eagles wrapped up the regular season on Friday night on Woody Roof Field with a 42-16 win over the John Marshall Bears. Weatherford did exactly what you’d hope from a team in their situation. They came out and dominated from the jump, leading 42-8 at halftime and were able to get a bunch of young guys some playing time in the second half. They were also able to get their starters some time off heading into a bye week in Week 10 then a trip to Tuttle in the first round of the 4A playoffs. Head Coach Reagan Roof was proud of his guys, “I’m glad the way we played. At the end of the season you don’t want to have a step back and play a bad game. It was a good night and I think we got out healthy.” Victor Garcia carried the rock 11 times for 78 yards and 3 TDs. Jackson Blackmon had 85 yards on 10 carries and a score. The Eagles get a much needed week off in Week10 to get as healthy as possible heading into the playoffs the following Friday night.
Woodward 14 @ Elk City 43
For 44 of the 48 minutes on Senior Night at Big Elk Stadium, the brown and white clad Elks dominated the Woodward Boomers, but those other 4 minutes had the Elk City faithful nervous during the 20 minute halftime break. Elk City led 21-0 with just over 4 minutes left in the first half when Woodward returned a fumble 46 yards for a defensive score. On the ensuing possession, the Boomers forced another fumble at the Elk City 24 yard line. Three plays later Ryan Douglas-Fischer made an incredible catch in the end zone for a second Boomers score and a 21-14 halftime advantage for the Elks. The Elks proceeded to end all hope of an upset out of the halftime break. The Elks outscored Woodward 22-0 in the second half to cruise to a 43-14 win. Head Coach Zac Maynard talked about the victory, “Schematically we did what we wanted to do. Physically we did what we wanted to do. Penalties and turnovers were not good tonight.” Jayden Wynn rushed for 126 yards on 19 carries with 2 TDs. Tucker Garza chipped in with 92 yards on 9 carries and a score. Jeremiah Jackson had a Pick 6 for the second straight game. Elk City clinched at least 2nd place in the district with the win over Woodward. They’ll travel to OKC for a Week 10 date with John Marshall inside Taft Stadium on Friday night.
