Monday Morning Quarterback: Woodland on a Mission, Stillwater Evokes the Spirit of 76, Perry Earns Right to Keep Name
Woodland Top 10, No Top 5
Brad’s Take: Yes, Hominy and Tonkawa are tough in district A5, but Woodland is making a case to be considered as one of the top teams in the class. Ranked No. 9 coming into the season, Woodland does not face Hominy or Tonkawa until the last two games of the regular season. Which means those two games will determine who is crowned district champs. The Cougars dismantled Chelsea, 60-8 and improved to 4-0 on the season.
Pioneers put up 76 in win over Grant
Brad’s Take: Stillwater wins over Grant, 76-6. So why are we talking about it? Since losing their first two games to Greenwood (AR) and Yukon, the Pioneer defense has given up 12 points. In a world where we get hung up on points, it’s really the defense you should be watching. Scoring 76 points is great but having the ability to stop drives is what wins championships. Look for more of the same this week when Stillwater hosts Booker T. Washington.
The Maroons of Perry over the Maroons of Blackwell
Brad’s Take: Even though the rights to the Maroon mascot name were not up for grabs, it’s an interesting side bet don’t you think? Loser must change their name for one year. I digress. Perry picked themselves up from a two-game losing streak to defeat rival Blackwell, 42-16. Perry has a tough road ahead, but they can savor this win and retain the Maroon bragging rights.
