Monday Morning Quarterback: What We Learned From Last Week’s Scrimmages (I-35 Corridor)
Washington
The Warriors scrimmaged Heritage Hall and Tuttle at the Carl Albert Super Scrimmage. It was a good first scrimmage to see the good and the bad of our team. We had enough success to let us know that we have the potential to be good but enough bad that we know we have to correct our mistakes so it doesn’t bite us later said Coach Brad Beller on his thoughts of the team’s performance
Hudson Howard and Kade Norman had a big night running the ball and the offensive line did a great job leading the way. Major Cantrell did a great job of spreading the ball around to our playmakers. Cage Morris, Mason Singletary, Max Wilson, Nate Roberts and Cooper Alexander all had big receptions, Defensively, Naithen Spaulding and Case Taylor had a big time scrimmage added Coach Beller on player performances.
Sulphur
Both teams were very physical and showed really good team speed. After last Friday I would say Lindsay could be a surprise team in Class 2A this year, Coach Hembree has his guys flying around and playing good football. I thought we threw the ball around well in the live quarter said Coach Corey Cole on team performance.
Colten Cole threw for 78 yards in the live quarter with Maddax Mobly catching two passes for 48 yards and a score. Defensively Austin Garrett was everywhere making tackles all over the field and Briar Davenport had an INT to set up a FG, Caden Cole and Justus Gilliam both played offensively and defensively for Sulphur. Sulphur won the live quarter 10-0, Still a work in progress and made lots of mistakes that need to be fixed but the Bulldogs were playing fast and physical added Coach Cole on player performances.
Thackerville
We went to Billings and scrimmaged them, South Coffeyville and the Wichita Warriors (A home school team from Kansas) I was really pleased with how our defense played by allowing only one touchdown scored but it was on a busted coverage said Coach Mark Barrett on team performance.
Offensively we scored 8-9 times and moved the ball well consistently, still need work on timing but it’s early. Justice Rodriguez played really well at QB and made good decisions on our RPOs. Austin Tyre ran the ball really well from our RB position and scored 2-3 of our touchdowns. Overall I was pleased with what I saw for our first scrimmage added Coach Barrett on player performances.
Paoli
We hosted, Central Marlow, Bowlegs and Webbers Falls. We were able to run a number of plays against each group. We are light years ahead of where we were this time last year. We have a lot of work to do, offensively we were able to move the ball a little on the ground, the only scoring we were able to do came from the air with Scotty Garrett hooking up with Conner Boone. Defensively a year makes a huge difference and our kids were able to play fast. Which as I can assure you is still slow. Our young offensive line is a work in progress but showed quick improvement in just two weeks. We go to Geary next Friday for another scrimmage, hopefully we can build on the positive play from last week said Coach Vince Fulks on team and player performances.
Maysville
We scrimmages Ryan, Grandfield and Cyril. Offense started off slow but found their footing throughout the scrimmage. Bryce Shannon senior QB stood out offensively running the ball and making good throws when asked to. Defensively we started fast and forced three turnovers in our first ten plays of the scrimmage vs Ryan. James McGregor senior CB stood out defensively by grabbing a couple INTs. He switched over to free safety some as well and made several great plays from that position. Kevin Alviso junior LB also stood out defensively. He was all over the field making tackles from his linebacker position and really stood out as our defensive leader said Coach Dace Lemieux on team and player performances.
Healdton
We scrimmaged Marietta. It was a good scrimmage for our team at this point in the season. We are very young with only six total juniors and seniors on our team so a valuable experience for us. Jason Josey A senior defensive end played well for us as well as Marshall Johnson A senior RB said Coach Dylan Terry on team and player performances.
Pauls Valley
We scrimmaged Madill. It went pretty well for a first scrimmage. The first defense gave up only one first down, Had good performances by FS Jon Grimmett, an interception by C Maddex Prince, and big plays by OLB Rayne Major and LB Nathan Whitaker. The first offense scored four times, RB Noah Oluguin scored twice and RB Rayne Major scored once, WR Jordan Stufflebean caught a 40 yard touchdown from QB Tanner Perry. Perry also had a couple of big runs. Grimmett and Prince both had 30 yard receptions. The offensive line performed well also to have that kind of production said Coach Dusty Raper on team and player performances.
Wayne
We went against Empire. Offensively, Jaxon Dill played well at QB and Issac Hill caught two touchdown passes. On defense, Eli Hobson led us in tackles said Coach Brandon Sharp on team and player performances.
Marietta
We scrimmage the Healdton Bulldogs. It went really well. We graduated 15 seniors last year and anticipate having four freshman starting this season. The team performed ahead of expectations with the amount of youth on the field. Edward Hill has a chance to go over 2000 total yards at TB. Curry Walters is projected to average 13 tackles a game as a strong safety
Dickson
We scrimmaged against Atoka and Valliant. Our FB Ethan Byers had a good scrimmage. QB Austin Hart did well running the offense. Defense looked strong to start. Offense has to work on angles to cut off defenders in the run game said Coach Matt Suffal on team and player performances.
Ada
We scrimmaged Marlow. Both teams were really physical and it went well! Will Johnson, Cord Coffee and Fisher Marr perform very well on defense. Caron Richardson and Brennan Riddle performed really well on offense said Coach Brad O’Steen on team and player performances.
Wilson
We scrimmaged at Wetumka with Keota and Velma-Alma. It went pretty good for us, It was a great scrimmage for us three preseason VYPE top ten teams. We played really well defensively, Our LBs Landon Richardson and Tyler Williamson had really good games on the defensive side of the ball. The offense was behind but most all are early in the season, Dakota Chatham had a great offensive game along with Alex McKendrick said Coach John Williamson on team and player performances.
