4A #7 Elk City (2-2, 0-0) @ 4A #9 Clinton (2-2, 1-0)
Friday night is the first of 3 games in 4A’s District 1 that figure to be the deciding factors in the District title race. Clinton has dominated the series between these two I-40 rivals. Over the last 50 years, the Elks have only been able to muster 7 victories, but they have won twice in the last 7 meetings including last season. The Tornado Bowl has been as house of horrors for the Brown and White. The Big Elks haven’t tasted victory in Clinton since the State Championship season of 1998. So far this season, both teams have beaten the teams they’re supposed to beat, but have struggled against the best teams on their schedules. Elk City’s two losses have come against teams that are ranked #1 in their respective class in their respective state (Canadian, TX & Carl Albert). Clinton’s two losses have come against 3A #1 Heritage Hall and 5A #10 Bishop McGuiness. Friday’s game is all about who can contain the other’s run game. Clinton possesses homerun capability from multiple guys in the backfield, especially Kyntavion Hill and Zaedon Collins. Elk City’s more of a ball control type run game. It’ll be emotional. It’ll be physical. I think it’ll be close. I just can’t believe Elk City wins in Clinton until I see it. Collins or Hill or both get loose one too many times and Clinton beats Elk City 21-14.
4A #10 Weatherford (3-2, 1-0) @ Woodward (0-4, 0-1)
The Eagles found a running game a week ago in a 35-15 District opening win against Chickasha. RB Jackson Blackmon and QB Stone Chism combined for just under 200 yards on the ground win 4 TDs. Woodward’s struggled from the jump. The Boomers’ defense has given up at least 40 in each of their 4 losses, 234 points total so far. Weatherford has controlled this series over the past decade, winning the last 9 and 11 of 12. It’s the Eagles first road test within District play. It’s a lookahead spot as Weatherford hosts Clinton next week. I don’t think that matters much unfortunately for the Boomers. Weatherford scores early and often in a 49-6 district win.
