“In their own words” – What did these players think after Week 2 of play? – McAlester Area

Last Updated: September 11, 20232.3 min read

With Week 2 of the high school football season in the books, I had a chance to sit down with some players and get their first-hand thoughts about some games in the McAlester Area this past week.

McAlester Buffs vs. Ada Cougars

In this heavily anticipated rivalry, the Ada Cougars emerged victorious, 44-20.

McAlester Players:

Zac Rogers, SR. OL – I believe we performed very average as a team honestly. From top to bottom, we couldn’t keep the energy in the second half, so there was a hiccup Friday night, but the goal is still in sight and mind.

Caden Lesnau, SR. QB – The coaches had a great game plan going into the game. We just didn’t execute the way we should’ve. We didn’t have a good practice all week. Obviously we didn’t play how we wanted to and the outcome showed. Hopefully this humbled us and we will learn from it as a team. We can’t just sit and dwell on a loss all we can do is move on.

A lone Ada thought…

George Maddox, SR. ILB – It’s a rivalry game, so you know it’s gonna be high intensity and physical. We just put it all together and got a big win.

Hartshorne Miners vs. Heavener Wolves

In a game filled with twists and turns, the Heavener Wolves managed to secure a hard-fought victory over the Hartshorne Miners, 36-26.

Jackson Moody, SR. QB, FS – I thought we did decent, but we have to make adjustments during the game, as well as after. We have to play together and realize this is a team sport, where all 11 guys are needed. I want to see this team be successful, and I feel like we’re on the cusp of great things.

Kelby Thomason, SR. RB – The game didn’t go as we wanted it to, but I felt like we grinded hard as a team and played together. We learned a lot, used it as a growing experience to get better on.
