“In their own words…” What did these players say after Week 9?
After some close games in Oklahoma on Week 9, let’s hear what these players had to say after these highly-contested matchups.
Vinita over Sequoyah Claremore, 14-13
Vinita’s Jett Wayne Ogden – “It was a great game and a roller coaster of emotions. I’m happy my teammates pulled together and we got the win.”
Vinita’s Denny Bowlin – “When it mattered most, we turned up the heat. We came together and made amazing plays at the end of the game so we could ultimately get a big senior night win.”
Sequoyah Claremore’s Tucker Long – “Beginning of this season, Coach always talked about adversity. Now, we are facing it. All we can do is go play our game and hope Salina can take care of business. And, hopefully, we’re in [the playoffs].”
Sequoyah Claremore’s Landon Gilbreath – “We fought hard, but came up a little short. We’re still hoping for a playoff birth.”
Muskogee over Bartlesville, 30-27
Muskogee’s Jamarian Ficklin – “Never overlook anyone.”
Muskogee’s Ondraye Beasley – “Always prevail against adversity.”
Sapulpa over McAlester, 27-22
McAlester’s Zac Rogers – “In my opinion, we displayed that we aren’t very good when we have a lot of penalties. If we don’t fix the small things, the big things will never take off.”
McAlester Caden Lesnau – “We didn’t execute and finish on all four sides of the ball. On offense, we were behind the sticks all game because of penalties. We have yet to play a complete game and when we do put it all together, we can be a dangerous opponent.”
McAlester’s Eli Pemberton – “We didn’t finish, we had penalties all throughout the night which caused us to behind the sticks on offense or allow them to get a first down on defense. I think we haven’t put a full four quarters of our best football together; we’ve seen bits and pieces of us playing well and I think if we put it all together for four quarters we can be dangerous.”
McAlester’s Owen Russell – “It was a tough loss to lose. We are a good team when we play as a team and not just do the things we want to. We need to limit the mistakes and finishing is a key thing we need to do throughout the remainder of the season. We’re as good as everyone else if we’ll play to our potential. We haven’t been blown out by anyone, they were close games and that’s with us not playing well. We need to put every piece in and we can be unbeatable. Go Buffs.”
Heavener over Spiro, 24-20
Heavener’s Camden Broyles – “Finish the job.”
Heavener’s Devry Ritter – “Let your game do the talking!”
Heavener’s Jadon Long – “Success isn’t owned, it’s leased. And rent is due every day.”
Spiro’s Kadon Craig – “Didn’t play like we should’ve during the first half, but came out and cleaned it up during the second half. Little mistakes had the biggest impact on the game. Regardless, we will fix them and be back next Friday.”
Tuttle over Newcastle, 14-13
Tuttle’s Ramsey Judkins – “Words can’t describe how much I love this game. Just proud to be able to be out there with my boys and get the W.”
Plainview over Marlow, 24-21
Plainview’s Jarod Trotts – “Winning isn’t everything… it’s the only thing” -Vince Lombardi
Owasso over Edmond Santa Fe, 57-53
Owasso’s Blake Cherry – “Last night was an adrenaline rush from both sides of the ball. From the coaching staff to the guys on the field, it was a full on team effort. We had a point in the game where we all knew something great was going to happen, we came together and rallied. In the end, we had the final push and got the win. We still have work to do and a job to finish.”
Owasso’s J’Kharri Thomas – “It was a great, hard-fought game. We were down 17 at half, so coming back out I knew we just needed a play to get the momentum on our side. After we got it going, we were unstoppable the rest of the night. Plus, the defense made plays when it needed to so I can’t ask for more getting ready for playoffs.”
