Friday Night Scoop: 3 “Too Early” Predictions After Week 2
Chandler 2-0, Could Challenge Jones for Top Spot in 2A-2
The Chandler Lions are 2-0 after defeating Bristow, 21-14 on Friday night. The Lions are picked to finish 2nd in district 2A-2, but if Jones has a hiccup along the way, the Lions could push for that No.1 spot. The two teams will meet on Oct. 20th at Chandler, which could be for the district title. Up next for Chandler is a non-district road game to Class 4A Poteau, a huge test for the Lions.
Tonkawa Beats 2A Perry, Ready for Road Trip to Blackwell
Head coach Mike Kirtley and Tonkawa are coming off back-to-back 10-win seasons. Entering this season, the Buccaneers were ranked No. 2 in A-5 behind Hominy and No. 7 in the top 10 overall rankings for Class A. The battle for the district title will take place Oct. 20th at Tonkawa.
What Does the 0-2 Start Say About Ponca City?
Loses to Enid and Guthrie to start the 2023 campaign for the Wildcats is not the way you would script it. Head coach Scott Harmon knew coming into the season that his team was facing a tough schedule, but a tough schedule is a good thing. This team won its first playoff since 2005 last year. So, the coaching and the talent are good enough to compete.
The Wildcats should have won the game against Enid. Guthrie is another story. The Bluejays were dominant from start to finish, however, PoHi learned a lot about themselves and where they are at this point in the season. When the dust settles, my money is on Harmon getting the Wildcats back to the playoffs.
