Two teams that will challenge defending state champion for the District C-2 are squaring off this Friday night.

2A: 1Washington(3-0) at Frederick(2-1)

The Bombers are sure to put up a strong fight with the top-ranked Warriors. No slouches themselves, the Bombers have had up-and-down success over the last decade and finished 8-4 last season, falling in the second round to Chandler.

“They have a really great team with a lot of great coaches. We obviously have our hands full, but we are excited to play the top program in Class 2A and excited for the opportunity to play the No. 1 team in the state,” Frederick head coach Bret Tyler said.

For local fans interested in recruiting, the Warriors boast two Power 5 tight ends in Iowa State commit Cooper Alexander and Nate Roberts, who recently de-committed from Notre Dame and is a big target for the Sooners.

A: Boone-Apache(2-1) at 9Mangum(4-0)

Apache looks to knock off unbeaten Mangum on the road Friday night. For both teams, the district-opener could be the toughest test they’ll play the rest of the regular season as they could very well finish 1-2 in the district.

“They have a lot of good players and are coached really well,” Apache head coach Tanner Koons said. “We will have to play great to have a chance.”

5A: Duncan(0-3) at MacArthur(3-1)

Duncan is still searching for its first win while the Highlanders are on a role after claiming the city title with wins over Lawton and Eisenhower.

“We are excited to start our district play against an old rival,” MacArthur head coach Brett Manning said. “Our goal is to play a complete four-quarter game and to be better than the last time we played.”
