3 Tulsa Area Games to Watch: Redhawks, Rams Settle District Title, Sapulpa-Durant Square Off, Sandites Win Tough Road Game
Owasso Rams at Union Redhawks
Brad’s Take: Remember last year’s semifinal game? Six overtimes. Union ranked No. 1. Final score, 50-47. Union remembers. So, they meet again, this time to open district play and this time it’s for a district title. I can hear it now, “but Brad, they have an entire season to play, anything can happen.” Wrong. Make no mistake, this is for the district title. Owasso was the last team to beat Union in a district game. Can they do it again, on the road? I like Owasso on the road, but it’s close. Owasso 34, Union 31.
Durant Lions at Sapulpa Chieftains
Brad’s Take: The Lions are riding a two-game win streak coming into Sapulpa after their week 0 loss to Ada. Sapulpa, in similar fashion, is on a two-game win streak after losing to Sand Spring in week 0. This game features the Durant defense versus the Sapulpa offense. Quarterback Colton Howard will be a problem for the Lions, unless Durant’s Xadavien Sims can be the dominant force that changes the way Howard plays. Sapulpa will pull this one out in the end. Sapulpa 28, Durant 21.
Sand Springs Sandites at Muskogee Roughers
Brad’s Take: Muskogee at home will be tough to beat, but if there is one team who could come in and pull out a victory, it’s the Sandites. If their QB, Easton Webb, is healthy and on the field, Sand Springs could get their biggest win of the season. But the Roughers feature one of the more dynamic players in Jamarian Ficklin. This game has the potential to be a real knock-down, drag-out fight, which both teams love. Please forgive me Bill Huddleston, but I’m taking those Sandites in an upset, 24-23.
