3 North Area Games to Watch: PoHi in an Upset, Battle of the Maroons, Pawnee-Hominy Both 3-0
Deer Creek Antlers at Ponca City Wildcats
Brad’s Take: It’s not the start to the season the Wildcats wanted. The good news is district play starts this week and the Wildcats open with a familiar foe in Deer Creek. The Antlers are riding a two-game losing streak coming into this one. Their only win was against Edmond North in week 0. Is this a trap game for Deer Creek? For Ponca to pull out a win, they must find a way to move the chains and not turn the ball over. They keep the Deer Creek offense off the field, the Wildcats win 23-21.
Perry Maroons at Blackwell Maroons
Brad’s Take: Well, what can you say about this one? Somewhere Mark Rodgers is breaking this matchup down to the two-deep lineups. Blackwell is 0-3 having given up 88 points in three games. Meanwhile, Perry isn’t much better at 1-2. Perry running back Andrew Kukuk could be the difference in this one even though Blackwell is at home. This could be a low-scoring affair. I like Perry, 17-10.
Pawnee Black Bears at Hominy Bucks
Brad’s Take: Hominy has been dominant in non-district games, 3-0 on the season and outscoring opponents 133-28. Pawnee is 3-0 as well, with a point differential of 172-60. See why we love this game? Jacob Warnock is tough to stop for Pawnee. And their defense is playing sound football. Hominy’s Jaxon Woods is the key. This will be a chess match between two excellent coaches. I like Hominy at home, 28-24.
