3 North Area Games to Watch for Week 3
Going 1-2 is not a great start, but that’s exactly what I did last week picking our games to watch. Yukon took out Stillwater, Chandler knocked off the Pirates of Bristow and the only saving grace victory was Hominy defeating Pawhuska. Let’s see what we have this week.
STILLWATER PIONEERS at NORMAN TIGERS
Should we go there again? Look, Stillwater is a quality football team and could have won last week. The Pioneers have the players to go out and take down the Tigers. The key will be the Pioneers cracking the code on the Norman 3-4 defense and finding ways to move the chains. It’s setting up to be a tough game for both teams, but I like Stillwater in a close one, 24-21.
OLIVE WILDCATS at GRAHAM-DUSTIN CHIEFTAINS
A classic Class B versus Class C matchup. The Chieftains are coming off a bye week after losing to Wilson-Henryetta in week 1. The Wildcats picked up a big win last week over Deer Creek-Lamont. So, which is more important, momentum or rest? This early in the season, give me momentum. Olive is 3-0 and shows no signs of slowing down. Give me Olive, 35-7.
TONKAWA BUCCANEERS at BLACKWELL MAROONS
Last week Tonkawa beat Perry, 8-0 in a strange contest, but a win is a win. Meanwhile, Blackwell was home licking their wounds from a defeat suffered at the hands of Afton in week 1. Coming into the season Tonkawa was ranked No. 8 in Class A. They are riding a two-game win streak (Newkirk, Perry) and I think they will make it three. Look for the Buccaneers to be 3-0 with a, 17-10 win over Blackwell.
