3 Must See Games in the Northwest Area: Can Kingfisher Win? Woodward Opener, Ringwood vs. Timberlake Collision

Tell us what game you’re going to see Friday night. Maybe you can be an on-site reporter for us. Email brad.heath@vype.com for more information.

KINGFISHER YELLOWJACKETS at WEATHERFORD EAGLES

Do you think Weatherford remembers what happen this time last year? Kingfisher was able to end an eight-game losing streak to the Eagles with a 38-21 win.

Look for coach Jeff Myers to open up the offense and use misdirection and motion to keep the Bluejay defense guessing.

The key to the game is the Kingfisher defense against the Weatherford offense. The passing game for Weatherford features CJ Nickson (Jr.) who comes in at 6-foot-5, 230-pounds. He is a mismatch for everyone he faces.

A road win for Kingfisher would be a great way for the Yellowjackets to start the season and possibly send them on a trajectory to another winning season.

GUTHRIE BLUEJAYS at WOODWARD BOOMERS

Guthrie made short work of Ponca City in week 0 while Woodward was still waiting for their first game to hit the calendar. That moment has arrived, and Woodward has an uphill battle ahead.

Under new leadership, the Boomers will face an offense in Guthrie that can put up points and shut you down on defense. But this game is more about getting better and preparing for district play if you’re Woodward. A win would be great, but showing effort, making plays and keeping a positive attitude are the real keys for Woodward and the new regime.

RINGWOOD RED DEVILS at TIMBERLAKE TIGERS

How lucky are we to have this big matchup early in the season? Ringwood is coming off a 6-6 season but returns running back/linebacker Cody Conaway, who may be the best player on the field. Conaway is facing a defense that only lost two games last year.

This game could turn into a shootout with both teams putting up some serious points.

Timberlake coach Brian Severin has a great coaching staff, but the team is young and will need to mature quickly if they want to make another run at a Class C title.
